Introducing Azure Red Hat OpenShift on OpenShift 4

For the past several years, Red Hat and Microsoft have worked together to co-develop hybrid cloud solutions intended to enable greater customer innovation. Last year, at Red Hat Summit 2019, Red Hat and Microsoft announced the general availability of Azure Red Hat OpenShift, the industry’s first jointly-engineered, managed and supported OpenShift service on a leading public cloud. Further extending our work together in the hybrid cloud, today at the Red Hat Summit virtual experience, Microsoft and Red Hat announced the general availability of Azure Red Hat OpenShift on OpenShift 4. azuregif Azure Red Hat OpenShift web console Azure Red Hat OpenShift enables you to create clusters in minutes, in a self-service fashion. Because this is a fully managed service, there are no VMs for you to manage. Patching, upgrading, repair, and disaster recovery are all handled for you as part of the service with best in class proactive 24/7 management and support from both Microsoft and Red Hat. With this release, we’re adding key features to Azure Red Hat OpenShift, including:
  • Cluster-admin support: We’ve enabled the cluster-admin role on Azure Red Hat OpenShift clusters, enabling full cluster customization capabilities, such as running privileged containers and installing Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs).
  • Cluster Autoscaling: Use the ClusterAutoscaler and MachineAutoscalers to automatically adjust the size of your cluster to meet current demand. Mix and match virtual machine sizes to your workloads.
  • Multi-Availability Zones clusters: To deliver high levels of resiliency, cluster components are now deployed across 3 Azure Availability Zones in supported Azure regions to maintain high availability for your most demanding mission-critical applications and data. Azure Red Hat OpenShift has a Service Level Agreement (SLA) of 99.9%.
  • Industry compliance certifications: To help you meet your compliance obligations across regulated industries and markets worldwide, Azure Red Hat OpenShift is now PCI DSS, FedRAMP High and HITRUST certified. Azure maintains the largest compliance portfolio in the industry both in terms of total number of offerings, as well as number of customer-facing services in assessment scope.
  • Bring your own identity provider: In addition to supporting authentication and authorization using Azure Active Directory, customers can now connect their supported identity providers, for example using OpenID Connect.
  • Azure Monitor support: Microsoft Azure is now extending monitoring support for Red Hat OpenShift 4 clusters hosted on Azure Red Hat OpenShift and on OpenShift Container Platform running on Azure or on-premises with Azure Monitor for containers. This support is currently in public preview.
  • Private API and ingress endpoints: Customers can now choose between public and private cluster management (API) and ingress endpoints. With private endpoints and Azure Express Route support we’re enabling private hybrid clusters, allowing our mutual customers to extend their on-premises solutions to Azure.
Azure Red Hat OpenShift with private endpoints OpenShift 4 is the industry’s most comprehensive enterprise Kubernetes platform, driven by the innovation of Kubernetes Operators to deliver full-stack automation from top to bottom. From Kubernetes to the core services that support OpenShift clusters to the application services deployed by end users; everything is managed with Operators. This release also brings key innovations from Red Hat OpenShift 4 to Azure Red Hat OpenShift such as:
  • Kubernetes 1.16 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux CoreOS: RHEL CoreOS provides a fully immutable, container optimized, operating system built from the world’s leading enterprise Linux platform, delivered and installed as a component of OpenShift.
  • OperatorHub.io: Red Hat launched OperatorHub.io to provide a registry where users can find curated Kubernetes Operators. Users can now access the Operator Hub through Azure Red Hat OpenShift console, which includes community as well as Red Hat OpenShift Certified Operators.
  • OpenShift Service Mesh: Based on the Istio, Jaeger and Kali projects, OpenShift Service Mesh provides an integrated service mesh for enhanced security and network segmentation of microservices applications. This enables developers to focus on building business logic while letting the service mesh manage policy-defined microservice communications. They can also use integrated tracing and visualization capabilities to debug issues when they occur.
  • OpenShift Serverless: Built on the Knative framework, OpenShift Serverless enables developers to build functions based applications that have the ability to scale to zero, and only consume compute resources when functions execute.

Red Hat Training and Certification COVID-19 Response

Red Hat Training and Certification COVID-19 Response

In response to current events, Red Hat Global Training + Certification has been evolving the way we work with customers and partners as well as the way we deliver our expertise. Due to COVID-19, many of our customers and partners are now subject to travel restrictions, quarantines and similar measures. Others may not be subject to such measures but are understandably reluctant to go to training and testing locations in the near future. Here are the ways in which we are working actively to meet the needs of the current situation. Expanded virtual training class offerings In light of social distancing mandates, we have expanded and scaled up our ability to deliver live virtual training classes as a replacement for in-person training events. This expansion includes the addition of courses to our virtual training catalog. Red Hat virtual training is real-time training conducted by live Red Hat-certified instructors in an interactive, virtual environment, giving you the same industry-respected content and hands-on labs as the corresponding classroom-based courses, including virtual lab machines that run actual products.   Cancellation flexibility The health and safety of our customers, partners, and fellow Red Hatters is a focal priority. Due to social distancing mandates, we are giving our students, customers and partners full flexibility to cancel and reschedule any previously scheduled classes or exams.   Extending Training Unit lifespan The lifespan of a Red Hat Training Unit is typically 12 months. Due to restrictions of testing and training locations, any Training Unit accounts purchased between now and June 30, 2020, will have a 15 month validity.   Extended exam window Red Hat Certified Professionals (RHCPs) are invaluable ambassadors for Red Hat and open source, and are critical assets to the organizations that employ them. Their health and well-being are very important to us. COVID-19 has caused the closure of many of our testing locations worldwide. Due to changes in the availability of testing locations, we are extending the period during which students can take certification exams by three months.   Postponed certification expiration We are extending all certifications set to expire between March 17, 2020, and September 30, 2020, to October 1, 2020. Affected RHCPs have been notified. Some questions have arisen about the approach we are taking. Why not extend all certifications? Why extend certifications expiring in September by just weeks or days? In the spirit of open source and the open organization, we want to be transparent and share our answers. First, the approach we are taking is the one we could put into effect most quickly from a technical perspective and set the minds of RHCPs at ease soonest. Second, the approach is fair and proportional. We do not know what the situation will be in six months. Our response weights the known present more heavily than the unknown future. We will plan to revisit the extension date if that becomes necessary.   Discounts on digital learning We have put certain discounts and promotions in place around our digital learning offerings in order to make them more accessible. These discounts vary by geography. Students can check with their local Red Hat Training + Certification teams to determine what promotions may be available.   Looking to the future We’re optimists, and hope for a better situation in the near future. We are also realists, and thus are working actively to develop new ways to meet the needs of the current situation. We wish health and safety to everyone, their loved ones, their colleagues and their communities.

Cisco extending the expiration date for all active certifications

Cisco is extending the expiration date for all active certifications by six months (180 days) as of March 16, 2020 in response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. This covers all Cisco and DevNet Specialist, Associate, Professional, and Expert certifications as well as CCT and CCAr.

So, for example, if your active certification is set to expire on March 30, 2020, it will now be in an active status until September 30, 2020. Or, in other words, you have until September 30, 2020 to recertify.

Your expiration date will automatically be extended, and there is no action required on your part. You will be able to check your personal certification manager page to validate your new expiration date within the next two weeks.

We hope this extension will give you extra time to recertify through our Continuing Education program, which remains open for all Cisco certified individuals at every level. Many Continuing Education options are available online. Please note that when you recertify, your new recertification date will be three years from the date of recertification.

We also want to remind you that there is currently an extremely high volume of inquiries coming into Cisco Certification Support team, so we ask for your patience as we work through your questions and concerns. We will keep the status of your case updated and you can log in to check on it at any time. Please do not open duplicate cases and close any that may be duplicates so that we can resolve inquiries most efficiently.

We will continue to update you on this blog and address your most frequently asked questions below. And to learn more about how Cisco is supporting training and certifications customers during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, please visit our landing page for regular updates.

We value your commitment to Cisco certifications during this challenging and unprecedented time.

FAQs

A: You will be able to check your personal certification manager page to validate your new expiration date within the next two weeks.

Q: Will you be making remote testing available?

A: We are investigating options including remote testing to support our customers in meeting their certification goals. The challenge is in identifying solutions that meet the rigorous standards we have established for testing integrity.
